who owns and runs bugflesh?

hi, i’m rhi, the owner/ creator of bug flesh jewelry :) i am a queer artist originally from Colorado and I run bugflesh out of my home. i do my best to source all materials from ethical places and strive to create well made jewelry that caters to alternative styles.

why did you start bugflesh?

my goal in starting bugflesh was to create cool pieces in alternative styles and make jewelry that i would love to wear. i’ve always loved diy and handmade jewelry and wanted to share what i’ve made! i also love oddities and natural history and want to create art from death, which is why I use naturally found natural materials. i also know there's not a lot of options for ethically made alternative jewelry and wanted to expand the market. i hope that I can inspire people with unique styles and i can’t wait to see what people pair my pieces with :)

why do you make oddity jewelry ? what is your goal in using bones and bug wings in your jewelry ?

I know oddity jewelry and bones isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I am deeply fascinated with natural history and death. my goal in creating art and jewelry from bones, bug wings, and other natural materials to honor animals that we often forget about in our daily lives. it is deeply important to me to see the beauty in death and share pieces of natural history with my customers. I am also very spiritual and am very respectful when processing any found animals. every natural material is 100% ethically sourced ; no animals are ever harmed or killed to make jewelry. to learn more about where I source things from, visit my FAQ page.

why do you source things ethically?

i just think it's good business to source things as ethically as I can. i do not want to contribute to poor practices and harm others by buying supplies from bad/low quality sources. everything from the chain to the charms is sourced from independent suppliers that have similar ethics to me. i also want to provide high quality and well made jewelry made from 100% stainless steel. I never will make  jewelry that’s cheaply and unethically made with mystery metals.

what is your goal for the bugflesh brand?

I want to continue to provide high quality jewelry using metal hardware, bones, bug wings, chainmaille elements, and unique pendants. I am also hoping to eventually expand to clothing!
